Unbeknownst to us, our A/C unit had given out while we were living in a different state.  The air unit kept running inside the house to try and keep the temperature down.  We came home to find the thermostat at 88 degrees when it should have been at 78, and a $400 electricity bill.  On top of having to purchase a new A/C unit which cost thousands of dollars, the home was more vulnerable to mold/mildew at those high temperatures."
